Japans Involvement with Chinese Imperialism
Because of Japan's scarce amount of raw materials, they were being forced to import from other areas of Asia, exporting finished products. This caused them to dominate sales of manufactured goods, and allowed them to sell these textiles to closer geographical areas, whereas the western powers had been farther away. Japan also started to industrialize during the Meiji Restoration, causing such things as reorganization of government, military, economy, and society using western models. Overall, Japan was a leading imperialist power due to the gaining of Taiwan during the Sino-Japanese war, and the gaining of ports in China, which allowed the Island to trade with other nations. This helped to aid Japan in joining the West in the race for Empire.
